Long-Term Care

At Belle Meade, we’ve reimagined the institutional feel of the nursing home environment and captured what truly makes a house a home.

Skilled Nursing Care Facility

Embracing a profound change from the way care is delivered in traditional skilled nursing homes, Belle Meade is part of The Green House Project — a model for long-term, high-quality, personalized care in a revolutionary cottage environment. Each cottage is a small, self-contained community that feels like home to our clients and their families. At Belle Meade, control, dignity and a sense of well-being are returned to elders, their families and direct care staff.

Our elders remain under the watchful eye of a clinical care team, including a physician, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse and certified nurses’ aides. We offer all the advantages of exceptional care in an environment that encourages the enjoyment of one another’s company.

Recreational and Social Services

The Green House Cottages of Belle Meade – A Rehabilitation & Senior Living Community addresses the recreational and social needs of each elder, complementing and enhancing the medical and physical care that they each receive. Opportunities are present for each elder to enjoy activities, ranging from morning news groups, bingo, religious services, singing, gardening, and crafts. Our social services team helps ensure that the elders’ medical, social, legal, and financial needs, requests, and responsibilities are met and fulfilled.

Elders choose his or her daily activities at Belle Meade, which allows elders the opportunity to remain independent and aware. Many elders play an active role in birthday parties, card and domino tournaments and other social events. Focusing on person-centered care includes listening to our elders’ voices and opinions regarding activities they prefer to enjoy. Our activities range from spiritual services to arts and crafts, picnics, family nights and much more.

Dining Services

All meals are cooked in the kitchen of each cottage. There is no set time for breakfast. Instead, breakfasts are made individually as elders wake up. Lunch and dinner are communal meals served fresh from the kitchen, family style, at the dining room table.

Meal times are seen as a time of gathering and sharing. All elders eat together at one large dining room table that has room for all Residents, two staff members, and two guests. The large table helps to promote a sense of community and conversation among the elders. By participating in the meal, the staff get to know the elders more fully and are able to monitor the elders’ well-being.  The staff facilitate and model the convivium of a shared meal.

RESIDENT APPETITES ARE STIMULATED BY THE SOUNDS, SMELLS AND SIGHTS OF FOOD BEING COOKED

People with memory loss can lose interest in food. Those with dementia may be confused by food that “appears” from a remote central kitchen without the sight, smells and sounds of food being cooked. Being around food as it is being cooked reminds elders of the upcoming meal and stimulates their appetites. The use of brightly colored china helps elders see the food on their plates and promotes better eating.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE FAMILY RECIPE?

One of the benefits of a small on-site kitchen is that the staff is free to try out favorite recipes of the elders. Birthdays, holidays, and seasonal events are all reasons for special meals and celebrations. A dietician reviews the meal plans every six months to make sure that nutritional standards are met. In the event that an elder does not care for a meal offering, an alternate meal choice is always available.

What is a Green House Cottage?

Green House Cottages are homes that can house up to 12 elders at a time while promoting dignity, independence, and freedom. Each cottage is designed to feel like home, with all rooms being private along with a private bathroom. You will find an open kitchen, dining, and living area in each cottage. The intimacy of each cottage allows elders and staff to form more meaningful relationships which helps ensure that the best quality of care is provided to each elder as an individual.
